Our Cats on the Ikea Cats Commercial

We were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to have 15 Izambard cats, in the latest Ikea commercial along with our friend Roz Hamilton-Jones with her prefix Phatphaws and 48 of her cats, and Lydia Murphy with her Vankedisi girl and her beautiful litter of kittens which were also used for the filming at Ikea’s UK flagship store Wembley London in July 2010.

The advert was filmed over 3 days and was a fantastic experience to be involved in, from the moment of arriving we entrusted our cats to the vets who checked everything was ok, to the film crew filming the experiment and Chris Brown.

The location was filled with some of the most beautiful cats, from our own Turkish Van cats, Vankedisi cats, Rag dolls, Maine Coons, Sphynx cats along with all the other cats.

We thought long and hard about doing the advert, as our main concern was the well being of our cats, after complete re-assurance from the film crew and Chris Brown we decided that we would go along and if we felt un happy we would remove our cats from the loaction.

After 3 long hard days ensuring that every cats was perfectly groomed for each shoot, re-takes from the film crew and the vets stopping the sets to ensure that the cats were in 100% condition at all times, stopping to make sure that they were feed along with fresh water.

Ramsey Our Turkish Van

Ramsey our Turkish Van boy who was a delight to handle and he was exploring around the sets running up to the camara, he was such a tease for the film crew.

Testimonial from Chris Brown - Director of Tooth n Claw

Jason and Andy were contacted by my company to provide cats and themselves as trainers for the IKEA ‘Happy Inside’, TV commercial.  During what proved to be an exhausting and testing shoot for the people involved, both Jason and Andy were always extremely professional, helpful and dedicated in everything I asked of them.

They supplied me with some of the most beautiful cats I have ever had the pleasure to work with and knew exactly the abilities of each and every animal, providing me with valuable information for each setup.

I look forward to working with both them and their cats again very soon.

The Making

LeoThis is Leo our odd eyed white Maine Coon boy on the set of Ikea Wembley for the filming of Ikea Cats, he was a complete explorer. he was the cat that just walked around as if he owned the place, he was a pleasure to work along with the camara which followed him.

 Gizmo

This is Gizmo our other Maine Coon boy on the set, these two boys just got on with filming, Giz was a big Honey Pot.

The Parody, which is very funny, someone has taken the time to make a spoof of the making of the Ikea Cats documentry

Izambard Cats On Set Below a selection of images from the Ikea Shoot.

This was one of the hardest sets as it was very confined, but the intrest of cats were put first at every step. we had a film crew filming the cats, but at the time a film crew filming us.

What was not own was Phatpaws & Izambard Cats helping each other to make sure we had an eye on all the cats, and knowing where they were.

This is Leo or White Maine Coon, he himself is stunning, but the shoot of hime here with his beautiful tail.

A closed set in the Bedroom area which was the one of the largest filming loactions on set.

We had wardrobes, high areas to deal with, He was the harsedt one for the humans as there were so many places for the cats to play & hide

Gizmo or Maine Coon & Wedgewood our Ragdoll, in the living room area, was a lovely area to film lots of soft Squishy area's for the cats to play & relax.

What more can I say, Buzz with his Human Slave.

Our concern for Buzz was the High area's but he was one of the most well behaved cats from our family. he stayed near to us as mush as possible apart from when he saw kittens on set and he wanted to be there father.

A Kitchen Shoot with Phatpaws and Izambard Cats

Charlie or Vankedisi spotting Leo or Maine Coon on set.

Kisi our Turkish Van, having a Diva moment with Buzz.

 Kittens & Cats Welfare

All cats & kittens were seen & examined by a vet upon arrival on each night. They were tested for carrying feline flu, swabbed for further infections & examined for skin lesions/infections, including ring-worm.

The vet is also present every step of the way, he is there to watch the shoots, observe for fatigue or distress etc during filming. The cats general behaviour & responce to this stressful situation is a vast consideration, they also all get vetted out.
